LOCAL : $750,000 Fire Hits Stereo Store
A fire that raced through a Van Nuys stereo and electronics store caused $750,000 in damage to the building and its contents, the Los Angeles Fire Department said this morning.
The fire was reported at 10:30 p.m. Thursday at Rogersound Labs in the 6300 block of Sepulveda Boulevard, department spokesman Jim Wells said. The cause of the fire, which heavily damaged the store, was under investigation.
The fire broke out in the rear of the store in the area of an electronics service lab, Wells said. More than 30 firefighters arrived and extinguished the blaze in about 45 minutes.
Firefighters were able to save much of the merchandise in the front showroom of the store but, Wells said, $500,000 of the damage estimate was attributed to contents of the store. He said most of the electronic components stored in the rear and expensive stereo repair equipment from the lab were destroyed.
