Colin Jackson Evens Record Against Kingdom

England’s Colin Jackson equaled his European 110-meter hurdles record of 13.11 seconds Friday, defeating two-time Olympic gold medalist Roger Kingdom at an International Grand Prix track and field meet in London.

Jackson, 22, who finished second to Kingdom at the Seoul Olympics, delighted a crowd of 16,000 at Crystal Palace Stadium as he evened his outdoor record against Kingdom this year at 2-2. Kingdom finished third, trailing another Briton, Tony Jarrett, the European junior champion.

Kenya’s runners dominated the middle- and long-distance races as Yobes Ondieki defeated Ireland’s Marcus O’Sullivan in the 3,000 meters in 7:41.55, Peter Koechwon won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 8:16.66 and Olympic champion Paul Ereng won the 800 meters in 1:43.60.

Other winners included Sergei Bubka of the Soviet Union, who won the pole vault at 19 feet 2 1/4 inches; world record-holder Butch Reynolds, who won his first 400-meter race of the season, in 44.61; Robson da Silva of Brazil, who defeated Calvin Smith in the 200 meters in 20.08, and Julia Jackson, who won the women’s 800 meters in 2:01.43.
