SOUTHLAND : San Jacinto Brush Fire Quenched
SAN JACINTO — Firefighters extinguished a 1,300-acre brush fire today that had burned three days in steep Riverside County terrain, destroying three homes and injuring nine firefighters, fire officials said.
The fire was fully controlled at 8 a.m., and four engines and one hand crew remained at the site to make sure the fire would not flare up, said Joanne Evans, spokeswoman for the California Department of Forestry.
About 250 homeowners and campers were evacuated overnight from the foothill area four miles east of San Jacinto when the fire broke out Friday.
