Charles Schwab Corp.: The San Francisco discount brokerage said earnings for the second quarter doubled from the same period a year ago. The company earned $4.2 million on sales of $139 million, which were up 45%. Strong market activity and growth in customer credit balances were two reasons cited for the increases.
