Police have obtained an arrest warrant for a Pacific Beach restaurant owner in connection with the shooting death last week of a high school student killed after a 2-mile chase.

Police and officials in the county district attorney’s office said Tuesday that they wanted the warrant because it is believed that the suspect, Roger Sing Ip, 32, may have fled to the Los Angeles area, where relatives live.

“We sent some people up there, or we’re going to,” police spokesman Dave Cohen said. “We know he has family up there.”

Ip, who lives in Spring Valley and operates the China Inn restaurant in Pacific Beach, has not been seen in the San Diego area since the July 10 shooting of Kurt Von Yokes, authorities said.

The victim, a Mission Bay High School student, was shot after he and his friends were followed for more than 2 miles by the driver of a maroon Isuzu. Police said the driver of the Isuzu became angry after a near-collision, chased the car, then shot the youth.
