Dual Fires at Clinic Blamed on Arson
Investigators have determined that arson caused the dual blazes in Hawaiian Gardens Sunday night that shut down an outpatient clinic operated by FHP Health Care, the health maintenance organization that also manages nearby Charter Community Hospital.
There is no suspect and no motive for the fires, which broke out within two hours of one another in the clinic building on the hospital grounds, said Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff Richard L. Love. He declined to reveal the type of physical arson evidence investigators found at the scene.
Sunday was the second time in three weeks that fire has hit the medical office building at 21520 Pioneer Blvd. On June 28, a daytime fire that was confined to a janitor’s closet caused the evacuation of about 285 patients and medical personnel.
