San Onofre’s Unit 1 Back in Service After Repairs
Unit 1 at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station near San Clemente returned to service after completion of repairs to a reactor coolant pump, a Southern California Edison Co. official said Friday.
“Unit 1 should be nearing full power” after being placed on-line Thursday, company spokeswoman Becky Sordelet said.
Plant operators shut down the 456-megawatt reactor July 5 when the water pump, used to cool the reactor, was found to be operating at above-normal temperatures, Sordelet said.
The other two units at San Onofre were operating at 100% capacity Friday, Sordelet said. Service to Edison’s customers in Orange, Riverside and San Diego counties was not affected by the shutdown of Unit 1, she said.
