Mel Blanc
The first job I had in filmed TV was a 1956 appearance on the Ann Sothern series, “Private Secretary.” I was extremely nervous.
The director, Oscar Rudolph, tried to put me at ease by introducing me to the guest star--a highly regarded, dearly loved entertainer--who proved to be supportive to the new kid on the block. “Don’t worry, Tommy,” the old pro said. “Everything will be fine. Let me know if I can help make it any easier for you.”
Things worked out just as he said they would. When we put a wrap on the show three days later, Mel Blanc and I were old friends. I’ll never forget him.
