Teen-Ager, Boy Kidnaped, Let Go by Robber After Holdup
A teen-ager and her 5-year-old brother were kidnaped after one of three men who robbed a department store’s jewelry section was stranded at Sherman Oaks Fashion Square, authorities said Saturday.
The 18-year-old woman and her brother were later released unharmed after driving one of the robbers to Westwood, Los Angeles police said.
The robbery occurred at 8:45 p.m. Friday when three men armed with revolvers entered the Broadway department store and instructed an employee not to move, police said.
The men, in their early to mid-20s, smashed jewelry cases, grabbed about $100,000 in jewelry and fled, police said.
Two of the men drove away in a car, apparently leaving the third, Sgt. Joseph Brazas said.
The remaining robber pointed a gun at the brother and sister and instructed them to get into their car in the mall parking lot and drive him away.
The teen-ager drove the armed man to Westwood and let him off on Wilshire Boulevard, police said.
