French Park Place, an office building designed by ML Partners of Irvine to blend with the architecture of Santa Ana’s Historic French Park District, has won this year’s Gold Nugget award for architectural excellence from the Pacific Coast Builders Conference.

The $3-million, 26,000-square-foot French Park Place developed by Hall-Moore Co. competed in the category of Best Professional Office Building under 50,000 square feet.

The architecture replicates the “California Craftsman” style that was popular around the turn of the century, in homes located within a 4-block radius surrounding the area of French Park.

Michael Lasley, partner in ML Partners, explained that because the site was originally zoned for residential use, the home owners in the area were concerned that an incompatible project might be built there.

“When they saw the architectural concept for the proposed building, they supported our efforts to have the site rezoned for commercial use,” he said.

Completed in 1988, French Park Place is now fully occupied by the State of California’s Fourth District Court of Appeals.
