Eastern Colleges
In response to John Mueller’s excellent column (Op-Ed Page, July 6), I am all for sending our children back East to college. As the mother of four children, the youngest two are attending different campuses of the University of California, I think the opportunity would be great.
Many parents, unwilling or unable to go to the expense of sending students out of state while undergraduates, would be happy to have their sons and daughters attend such distant colleges to learn how life is lived in other areas.
If California would consider giving students scholarships to attend out-of-state schools, it would benefit all concerned. Vast amounts of money would be saved by not having to build new campuses and the burgeoning college population would surely, at the very least, slow in its explosive growth rate.
