Dealing With Illegal Aliens
I normally do not respond to your columns but the article written by Rodriguez forced this response. Rodriguez is an attorney yet he gives the impression that undocumented aliens have not committed a crime. It is my impression that if one crosses the borders of a country in which one is not a citizen without permission of that country, that constitutes a crime.
He continually refers to undocumented aliens as innocent of any guilt. For an attorney this appears to be a contradiction in terms. He appears to be protesting the INS and LAPD raids of Latino areas. I am sure that Rodriguez must realize that a vast majority of illegal aliens in the Los Angeles area are of Latino extraction. It is ludicrous to raid parks in non-Latino areas to find illegal aliens.
It is my understanding that it is illegal for any employer, even for one-day labor, to now hire an undocumented alien. Is Rodriguez suggesting that our city government should openly and knowingly advertise and aid these undocumented aliens to find daily work?
In ending, Rodriguez should be more conservative in his definition of illegal acts and not pick and choose what constitutes a crime and what is not a crime. This is left up to the legal system.
