Redus Leaves Hospital After Being Hit by Pitch
First baseman Gary Redus of the Pittsburgh Pirates was treated at a Pittsburgh hospital Tuesday morning after having been struck in the face by a fastball thrown by Dodger reliever Tim Crews.
Redus was struck slightly below the left eye by a pitch clocked at 90 m.p.h. during the seventh inning of the Pirates’ 7-4 victory Monday night.
Although Redus apparently did not suffer any broken bones and was released after treatment, his status was uncertain as the Pirates began a seven-game trip in New York.
