Compaq Computer Corp.: The Houston-based computer firm said second-quarter net income rose 43% from last year to $84 million. The 1988 results included a $6-million non-recurring gain. Sales jumped 58% to $722 million. The firm attributed the gains to worldwide demand for its two recently introduced desktops, the Compaq Deskpro 386/33 and 286e, as well as continuing strong sales of the rest of its line.
