* The Stella Adler Theatre held a champagne benefit event at the theater in Hollywood on June 22 and raised $35,000 to complete the theater lobby construction phase in time for the Sept. 9 official opening. Carol Burnett was co-host with the theater’s board of directors.
* The Los Angeles Doctors Symphony concert on June 25 at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre raised $10,000 for the Los Angeles Free Clinic, which provides free health care to Los Angeles’ needy. The event was underwritten by Infiniti. Ellis C. Berkowitz MD, Charlotte Rae, Ronald Sue MD and William Windom were honorary co-chairs. Ann Krakover and Freda Rosen were event co-chairs.
* The Marianne Frostig Center of Educational Therapy at its July 9 Annual “Day at Disney Studios” raised $31,000. The funds will be used to provide scholarships, teacher training and research in the field of learning disabilities. Carrow’s Restaurant was presented with the Marianne Frostig Service Award for its generosity in donating a portion of the food for the center’s benefits over the last three years. Sharon Disney Lund was honorary chair. Judith Carter and Chris Dawald were co-chairs.
* The Santa Monica-Westside Charity League held its West Coast Anne Klein 1989 Collection Fashion Show at the Biltmore on July 13 and raised $21,000 to fund research at UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. The event was underwritten by Nordstrom. Karen Skinner, League president, hosted.
* The second annual art auction sponsored by Galerie Michael and the Spare Change Project on July 20 at the new Loew’s Santa Monica Beach Hotel raised $40,000 to benefit the Family Assistance Program, which rehabilitates homeless families. Vincent Price, Stephanie Beacham, Elke Sommer, David Hockney, Sally Kirkland and Whoopi Goldberg were honorary co-chairs.
