P. M. BRIEFING : Strike Cancels Dean Martin Show
LAS VEGAS — Striking musicians today forced the indefinite cancellation of the Dean Martin show at Bally’s Hotel and Casino on the Strip.
The musicians set up picket lines Thursday after Bally’s switched from live music to taped numbers for their production show, Jubilee.
The cancellation of the Martin show was the first time a Strip headliner has been affected in a two-month dispute between hotels and musicians.
Several Las Vegas hotels that feature lavish production shows have announced they are dropping live music in favor of taped production numbers. The musicians will continue to play at shows featuring name stars. Bally’s is the only Las Vegas hotel that has both headliners and a production show playing in separate showrooms.
