Fire Routs 9,500, Kills 1 in Northern Myanmar

YANGON, Myanmar — Fire swept through the city of Mandalay in northern Myanmar, formerly Burma, on Thursday, destroying more than 1,500 houses, leaving 9,500 people homeless and killing one person, officials said Thursday.
An unspecified number of people suffered minor injuries in the blaze, according to the officials. There was no indication of the cause of the blaze.
