Chamber Group Offers Employee Car-Pool Plans

A number of programs that encourage employees to car-pool or use public transportation are being offered by the Transportation Management Assn., an affiliate of the Westchester/LAX Chamber of Commerce.

The group, composed of more than two dozen local companies, was formed in December to help employers comply with new air-quality regulations, said spokesman David Delfin.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District this year began requiring companies with more than 200 employees at a site to formulate a detailed transportation plan. Starting next January, the requirement will include companies with more than 100 employees at a site.

Companies will have to explain how they will reach a certain level of car-pooling and public transportation among its employees. Most companies will be required to reach a goal of 1.5 employees per car driven to work, according to an AQMD spokeswoman.
