MGM/UA Proxy Mailed: In a proxy mailed to shareholders, MGM/UA Communications Co. said its merger with Qintex Australia Ltd. will be put to a vote Sept. 23. Under the original deal, Qintex planned to sell the television operations as well as the MGM name back to a company controlled by financier Kirk Kerkorian, but the proxy disclosed that Kerkorian is considering selling the television assets. MGM’s current television programming includes the ABC prime-time series “thirtysomething.”
