Assembly Speaker Brown’s Chartered Jet Proposal
Brown wants the state to provide an executive jet for him and other top government officials to use for air travel, because of delays and canceled flights when using commercial airlines.
Brown is an important government VIP, but he should also consider the common people who have the same problems. A better solution--and one less costly to taxpayers--would be to require airlines to compensate passengers whose flights are canceled or substantially delayed (airlines are already required to compensate passengers who are bumped due to overbooking). This would motivate the airlines to take better care of their passengers.
