Little League World Series : Venezuela Beats Brucker, San Pedro
Victoria Brucker finished her assault on the record book here Friday by becoming the first girl to start as a pitcher in the Little League World Series. Her outing, however, wasn’t successful as Maracaibo, Venezuela, routed San Pedro in the third-place game, 10-1.
Brucker lasted just 1 2/3 innings, giving up seven hits and five runs, including a pair of two-run homers. But she became the first girl to strike out a batter when she retired Jose Amaya to open the second inning.
Wednesday, Brucker had gotten the first hit by a female player when she singled in her fourth at-bat. For the series, she was one for seven with a pair of walks and four strikeouts.
Venezuela pitcher Freddy Ferrer struck out 12. San Pedro’s Gary Sloan hit his third home run of the series.
