Golf Roundup : Kuhn Finishes 2nd in Senior Tournament
Marie Kuhn of North Hollywood shot 78 for a 36-hole total of 157 to place second in the Los Angeles Senior Women’s golf championships at the Balboa Golf Course in Encino on Friday.
Millie Stanley of the Wilshire Country Club won the tournament for the seventh time with a 154 total and Susan Rennie of Rancho Park finished third at 160.
Kuhn, 54, the two-time defending tournament champion, also finished second in 1985 and ’86.
Kevin Kurhajic of Sepulveda scored a par on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff to defeat Richard Ballard, also of Sepulveda, at the L. A. City Club Junior Championships at Woodley Golf Course on Friday.
Kurhajic, 15, and Ballard, 14, both shot 76 in the 18-hole tournament to force the playoff. Ballard bogeyed the second playoff hole.
Sheldon Mink, 14, of Sepulveda broke a three-way tie for third place in spectacular fashion on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff. Mink eagled the 346-yard, par-four first hole by sinking an 8-iron approach shot.
Mink beat Tom Kirby, 17, of Sepulveda, who placed fourth, and Jennifer Choi, 16, of Rancho, who took fifth. All three golfers shot 78 in regulation.
The tournament consisted of junior club champions from throughout the city.
On Thursday, Kurhajic and Mink finished 1-2 in the two-day Sepulveda Juniors Club championship. Kurhajic shot 77-77--154 while Mink shot 77-81--158.
In the younger division, 13-year-old Steven Kang carded 82-86 to win his flight. In the 18-hole-flight, 12-year-old Sam Clemons shot 56-56 for a winning 112 score, while 10-year old Patrick Stewart won the Pee Wee division with a 52-47 for a two-day total of 99.
