The 16th-annual Cervantes Festival of the Arts will be held in Guanajuata, Mexico, and three other cities of Guanajuato state on Oct. 14-30.
Sponsored by the government, the festival features ballet, plus plays, operas, concerts, poetry readings and exhibitions of paintings and sculptures in Guanajuato, Leon, Irapuato and San Miguel de Allende.
Artists from the United States, Soviet Union, France, Canada and Latin America are among those taking part in the festival, named in honor of Spanish novelist Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra.

The amount spent on travel in the United States by foreign visitors and U.S. citizens totaled $291 billion in 1987, the latest year for which figures are available, according to a report by the U.S. Travel Data Center.
That figure represented a 9% increase over 1986, the annual Impact of Travel on State Economies report stated. California led all states with a $36-billion share of the total, followed by Florida with $24 billion and New York with $17 billion.

Visitors to Paris who want to see the city by water have until the end of September to take a ride down the Seine on the Batobus. Two shuttle boats, the Loire and the Rhone, ply the river between the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame Cathedral, making three stops.
