Syntex Corp.: The Palo Alto-based pharmaceutical firm reported a profit of $303.2 million for 1989, up 2% over the previous year. Sales totaled $1.3 billion, up 6%. In the fourth quarter, net income fell 25% to $50.4 million because of lower U.S. sales of Naprosyn as a result of additional competition from two new anti-inflammatory prescription drugs. Sales during the period slipped 3% to $321.1 million.
