More than 120 law enforcement officers executed search warrants and arrested 11 reputed gang members, including a man wanted for a 1987 slaying, in a three-hour series of raids early Thursday in the unincorporated Firestone area and in South-Central Los Angeles.

The raids, which took place at 14 homes, were designed to stem the activities of a specific gang faction.

In addition to the arrests, authorities confiscated about a dozen firearms and an ounce of suspected cocaine, according to the Sheriff’s Department. One of those arrested was a teen-ager.

Lt. Mike Sparks, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Department, said the targeted gang faction is made up of about 100 members and is responsible for a spate of recent crimes in the Firestone area, including drive-by shootings, robberies and illegal purchases of guns.

In addition to sheriff’s deputies, federal firearms agents and Los Angeles police officers took part in the raids.
