Tom Bradley and the Press

A good, decent, honorable man, public servant for 47 years, may be guilty, after all, of influencing decisions in a manner assumed improper.

What is deeply disturbing to me is how the press, members of the City Council, auditors and attorneys, are so blinded by their vestments and high seats that they fail to recognize when their personal ambition has overwhelmed common sense, and investigation has become persecution. Have we forgotten about compassion?

The Times chases the Herald which chases The Times. Others, in the competitive spirit, call for investigations of investigations, to be led by their own selected inquisitors. In the end, will there only be the taste of ashes? Have we not yet learned the destructiveness of our powers employed with such self-righteousness?
