100 Acres Scorched by Fire in Newhall
A fast-moving fire in Newhall scorched about 100 acres of grass and brush before it was contained Saturday evening, Los Angeles County fire officials said.
The fire, which broke out just west of San Fernando Road and Sierra Highway about 4 p.m., destroyed an outbuilding and damaged a motor home and a flatbed truck in an oil field, a Fire Department spokesman said.
The blaze, attacked by about 230 firefighters, 25 engines, two bulldozers and two helicopters, was surrounded about 6 p.m.
The spokesman, who predicted that the blaze would be extinguished by morning, said the cause had not been determined.
