Consumer Confidence Dips: Consumers were less confident about the domestic economy in August than in the previous three months, the Conference Board reported. The board’s consumer confidence index fell to 114.7 last month from 120.4 in July. The index is compiled from a monthly survey of 5,000 households. Only 27% of those surveyed said current business conditions are good, down from 31.6% in July. About 31% said jobs were “plentiful,” down from 33.1%; 17.2% expect more jobs to appear during the next six months, down from 18.6%, and about 25% said their family’s financial situation would improve, down 2%.
