Federal Aviation Administration officials said they will try to discourage future record-breaking flights by children, such as that of 11-year-old Tony Aliengena, complaining that they give the public the wrong impression that “there are a bunch of kids flying around out there.” The policy was stated in a reply by the FAA’s acting general aviation manager, Louis C. Cusimano, to a Seattle pilot who criticized as a “publicity stunt” the San Juan Capistrano boy’s record flight with his father. Tony became the youngest person to pilot a plane around the world on his seven-country “Friendship Flight” from John Wayne Airport in Orange County last June 5 to July 22.
