Former Vernon S&L; Executive Found Guilty: A federal jury in Dallas convicted Patrick G. King, the former president of the failed Vernon Savings & Loan Assn., of making illegal political contributions to former House Speaker Jim Wright and others including Sen. Alan Cranston (D-Calif.), falsifying the thrift’s books and using thrift money to pay for the company of topless dancers. King, who had previously served as Texas deputy thrift commissioner, was found guilty on 13 of 37 counts. Sentencing was set for Nov. 2.
