U.S., Soviets Sign Butter Deal: The United States and the Soviet Union completed a deal for the purchase of U.S. butter, a Soviet official in Washington said. The U.S. had offered 75,000 tons of butter in its stockpiles. Asked whether the deal involved the entire amount of stockpiled butter, Cooper Evans, White House agriculture adviser, said: “I wouldn’t bet on that number.”
