TOP PERFORMERS
Mark Gaw scored on runs of 10 and 17 yards and caught a five-yard touchdown pass from Don Disbro to lead Mission Viejo to a 42-0 rout of Long Beach Jordan.
Tim Manning, who last year played defensive back and wide receiver for Trabuco Hills’ Division VIII championship team, completed 12 of 16 passes for 152 yards and one touchdown in his debut at quarterback as the Mustangs topped Rancho Santa Margarita, 50-14.
Shad Vickers, a junior running back, scores a pair of touchdowns and gains 94 yards on 19 carries to lift Irvine to a 19-3 victory over University.
Brian Pizula rushed for 188 yards in 10 carries and scored touchdowns on runs of 55 and 75 yards to lead Sunny Hills to a 31-6 victory over Rowland.
Matt Carvalho scored both of Dana Hills’ touchdowns, on runs of 55 and 24 yards, to help the Dolphins to a 15-0 victory over San Diego Ramona.
Acen Childs, a junior tailback at Orange, scored touchdowns on runs of 2, 15 and 2 yards and added a fourth touchdown on a 7-yard pass from Chris Thompson to spark the Panthers to a 30-0 victory over Chino.
DEFENDER OF THE DAY
Greg Fish, a defensive end, led a Servite defense that held Long Beach Wilson to 86 yards rushing in the Friars’ 21-0 victory.
STREAKS
The county’s longest unbeaten streak was snapped when Huntington Beach defeated Corona del Mar, 19-6. Corona del Mar went 14 games without a loss last year to win the Division VI title with a 12-0-2 record.

Edison quarterback Donnie Smith gets off a 79-yard punt in the Chargers’ 21-14 victory over El Modena at Orange Coast College.
First-game jitters hit Tustin High School in the first half Friday night. The Tillers had more yards in penalties (119) than they did in total offense (111). At one point, the Tustin offense was hit with three consecutive penalties and faced a third-down-and-42 situation.
