Newport Harbor Pounds Laguna Beach
Newport Harbor High School overpowered host Laguna Beach, 30-6, in the non-league opener for both teams Friday at Guyer Field.
Junior kicker Josh Klein accounted for 11 of Newport Harbor’s points on field goals of 45, 36 and 35 yards and two extra points.

The highlight for Laguna Beach came early in the first quarter, when linebacker Sean Mallett hit Scheck in the backfield, causing a fumble, and defensive tackle Simplicio Rimando recovered at the Newport Harbor 22. Three plays later, Mallett burst into the end zone to make it 6-0 with 5:30 left in the period.
Farley was the leading ground-gainer for Newport Harbor with 90 yards on 12 carries.
Laguna Beach senior quarterback Aaron Scheid completed 10 of 19 passes for 116 yards. Senior flanker Eric Spraker caught five of Scheid’s passes for 55 yards.
