Teen-Age Storyteller to Spin Her Tales at Barnsdall Park
The Junior Arts Center at Barnsdall Art Park begins its fall storytelling series today with a program of “Stories From Many Lands.”
The storyteller is Alecia Grebner, a 15-year-old Angeleno, who is fast making a name for herself in the storytelling world.
A natural performer who lives with her mother and grandmother, Alecia learned many of her stories from them. Others she researches in bookstores and libraries while maintaining an A average at a Los Angeles high school. She was the only teen-ager to perform at the sixth annual National Festival of Black Storytellers recently in Oakland, where she also served as mistress of ceremonies.
The free program begins at 2 p.m. in the Gallery Theatre and is suitable for youngsters 5 and older. Alecia will involve youngsters in the audience in the stories, giving them a chance to participate.
Barnsdall is at 4800 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood. Families may want to arrive early to picnic on the broad lawns of the park’s upper level and to explore the galleries. Reservations not required for the storytelling. Information: (213) 485-4474.
