High School Football : Long Pass Seals Village Christian Victory
Quarterback Matt Bates hit Rick Nickles on a 64-yard touchdown pass with 2:14 to play to clinch Village Christian’s 21-8 victory over Leffingwell Christian on Saturday night at Excelsior High in Norwalk.
The fourth-quarter bomb came shortly after Leffingwell trimmed a 14-point deficit to six on a short touchdown pass and a two-point conversion run.
Bates, who completed a 35-yard scoring pass to Mark Vail in the second quarter, completed nine of 19 passes for 138 yards.
Village Christian’s Chad Everett, who led all rushers with 83 yards in 15 carries, scored on a 21-yard run in the third.
