High School Roundup : Dameworth Blitzes Invitational Field
If the radars at the U.S. naval base at Point Mugu locked onto a quick-moving, low-flying object along the California coast Saturday, it was probably Bryan Dameworth.
The Agoura High senior, in his opening race of the season, ran a blistering 14 minutes, 24 seconds over the three-mile, bike-path course at Ventura’s San Buenaventura State Beach to win the inaugural Kiwanis Seaside Cross-Country Invitational.
“I felt pretty good,” said Dameworth, the two-time defending state Division I champion.
Second- and seventh-place finishes by Quentin Bauer (15:07) and Mike Cherman (15:44), helped Agoura (80 points) to the team title over San Diego (113).
The Agoura girls, hampered by the absence of Deena Drossin (shin splints), finished second to co-host Buena, 50-53, despite placing three runners in the top 10.
