Cypress : Police Captain Chosen for the Chief’s Office
The City Council on Monday night named Capt. Daryl M. Wicker to succeed Chief Ronald Lowenberg as head of the city’s 83-member police department.
Wicker, 43, who started his career in Cypress 21 years ago as a patrol officer, will take over as chief next Monday, city officials said. Lowenberg resigned to become chief of the Huntington Beach Police Department.
“This is where I started my police career, and I’m elated with the opportunity to serve this community as police chief,” Wicker said after his appointment was announced.
As chief, Wicker said, he will focus on eradicating drugs and improving traffic conditions, and also on plans to update the department’s equipment. The city has a population of 43,000.
Wicker, who lives in Whittier, has been married for 21 years and is the father of two children.
Wicker has served in every rank on the force and has worked in nearly every section of the department, including traffic, narcotics, vice and as a detective.
