The Scene: Sunday night’s 10th anniversary party for l.a. Eyeworks, the optical store that single-handedly made astigmatism le dernier cri . Eight hundred guests gathered at City Restaurant on La Brea, where the parking lot had been closed off and turned into a replica of a private club, complete with area rugs, sofas, and floor lamps.

Eyeworks’ attention-getting specs--with some sporting monocles and pince-nez. The waiters had the most trendy styles of all. They conceded that their glasses were outfitted with clear glass and that they were really wearing their contact lenses underneath.

Who Was There: Inca princess and nightclub singer Yma Sumac, who recently posed for one of l.a. Eyeworks’ celebrity ads; photographer Greg Gorman, who shoots the ads; comedians Sandra Bernhard and Taylor Negron; Jerry Casale of Devo; Michael Hodgson of KCRW-FM; and party girl Allee Willis.

Overheard: “Oh, not another female impersonator,” groaned a guest who had obviously been to one party too many this year. One waitress/aspiring actress discussed the really, really good class she was taking. “I think I’ve really got a future in voice-overs.”
