110 Unhurt as Jetliner Lands on Nose, Skids
From United Press International
CHICAGO — An American Airlines plane skidded off a runway Tuesday at O’Hare International Airport after its forward landing gear collapsed, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman said.
All 110 people aboard reportedly escaped without injury.
The pilot of Flight 1271, from Rochester, N.Y., radioed the O’Hare tower to report hydraulic problems and request emergency ground equipment, FAA spokesman Mort Edelstein said. He said emergency chutes were used to evacuate the MD-80, a twin-engine jetliner manufactured by McDonnell Douglas.
