Community College Roundup : Garcia’s 6 Goals Spark Cypress in Water Polo
Craig Garcia had six goals to lead Cypress College past Fullerton, 11-4, Tuesday in a nonconference water polo match at Cypress. It was the season-opener for both teams.
The score was tied, 2-2, at halftime, but Cypress outscored Fullerton, 4-1, in the third quarter. Garcia scored two goals in the third quarter and three more in the fourth. Goalie Pat Ruzgerian had 15 saves for Cypress. Five different players scored for Fullerton.
In men’s nonconference soccer:
Long Beach 3, Cypress 1--Diego Abbes scored in the first half on a penalty kick to give Cypress a 1-0 lead. Long Beach came back with three goals in the first half. Cypress is 0-2, and Long Beach 1-2.
Glendale 4, Golden West 2--Golden West goals by Craig Larson and David Liang tied the score, 2-2, early in the second half, but Narciso Monge and Peter Rodriguez later scored for Glendale at Golden West (0-3).
El Camino 3, Orange Coast 2--Down 3-0 in the second half, Orange Coast’s comeback fell short at El Camino. Andy Strouse scored his third goal of the season and Paul Oldham scored his second for Orange Coast (1-1). El Camino is 3-0.
In women’s nonconference volleyball:
Saddleback 3, Imperial Valley 0--Freshman setter Laura Farrell had 12 kills and seven aces as Saddleback won its season opener, 15-5, 15-10, 15-4, at home. Saddleback had nine aces in the first game.
