Cal State Northridge Settles for Tie in Soccer
Cal State Northridge battled to a 1-1 stalemate with Claremont-Mudd on Wednesday in a men’s nonconference soccer match at North Campus Stadium.
Northridge (1-0-1) outshot the Staggs, 26-6 and enjoyed an 8-0 advantage in two 15-minute overtime periods. But the Matadors were held in check by Claremont-Mudd goalkeeper Stephen Goodson, who recorded eight blocks.
“We got our chances, but we didn’t get that break,” Northridge Coach Marwan Ass’ad said. “We took our shots, but there was a wall in the goal. If you don’t score, you don’t win.”
Northridge goalkeeper Mike Littman stopped three shots and allowed his first goal of the season.
Northridge’s Jim Hofferbar scored the first goal at the 12:05 mark of the first half with an assist from Teddy Davila. Davila fielded a rebound off the crossbar and passed the ball to Hofferbar.
Claremont-Mudd (1-0-1) evened the score at the 31-minute mark on a shot from the crease by Michael Lewis. Steve Barbarich assisted on the goal.
