Groups Sponsor Essay Contest on 1492 Theme
An essay contest on the theme, “Oct. 12, 1492: The Meeting of Two Worlds” is being sponsored by USC’s Office of Civic and Community Relations, the Mexican-American Education Commission of the L.A. Unified School District and the U.S. Discovery of America Quincentennial Committee.
First prize winners will receive $500 higher-education scholarships. Contestants must be full-time students in a junior or senior high school in Southern California.
Prizes will be awarded in four categories: Grades seven through nine, in English; grades seven through nine, in Spanish; grades 10 through 12, in English, and grades 10 through 12, in Spanish. The deadline for entries is Oct. 12.
