A national chain of resort apartments is once again offering winter discounts for mature travelers at more than 60 locations nationwide.

Oakwood Resort Apartments will reduce rates for a minimum 30-day visit by 33% for seniors age 55 and over, effective from Nov. 1 through March 31.

The program provides an opportunity for visits to children, grandchildren, relatives or friends while enjoying the privacy of your own fully furnished apartment.

Oakwood Apartments are in California (33 locations throughout the state), Denver, Las Vegas, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Raleigh, N.C., Austin and Houston, Tex. (11 locations) and Virginia.

Oakwood has studios or one- and two-bedroom apartments, each of which has a furnished kitchen, with cooking utensils and dishes. Apartments come complete with a color TV, VCR, linens for bed and bath and weekly maid service. Private telephones have been pre-installed, eliminating the wait for service. All utilities are included in the rental price.

Most units feature lighted tennis courts with an instructor, swimming pools, spas, saunas and fitness centers. Sunday brunch is served at no charge in a private clubhouse, which also has a large-screen TV and a party room/lounge that can be booked for private use. Some complexes also have mini-markets and hair salons, plus laundry and dry-cleaning services.

Based on a minimum 30-day stay, daily rates can be as low as $16 for a studio with kitchen, up to $50 a day for two-bedroom units. Price variations are affected by the city or state in which the apartment complex is located.

Red Roof Inns has begun a program for mature travelers that’s called RediCard + 60, which provides senior guests 60 and over with special room rates and other benefits.

A $10 annual membership fee entitles RediCard holders to a 10% discount off published room rates, five $2 discount coupons that can be deducted from rates before the 10% discount, Hertz Rental Car discounts, a Rand McNally road map showing all Red Roof Inn locations, plus a quarterly newsletter that contains discounts for seniors at nearby restaurants and attractions.

The Red Roof Inn directory shows daily rates ranging from $23.95 to $55.95. Rates are for one or two persons, and some locations have seasonal rates. Prices quoted in the directory are before the RediCard senior discount.

The comprehensive directory gives the address of each inn plus a small, easy-to-read locator map, distances from important businesses and locations of airports, convention centers, tourist attractions, shopping centers and sports arenas. Nearby restaurants are also listed.

For a copy of the Red Roof Inns directory and information on the RediCard + 60 program, call toll-free (800) 843-7663. Or write to RediCard-MT, Red Roof Inns, 4355 Davidson Road, Hilliard, Ohio 43026.
