The State - News from Sept. 18, 1989
Members of five unions representing a variety of workers at Disneyland voted to accept a new 3-year contract calling for raises of at least 11%. Of the votes cast, 886 were in favor, with 493 against. Union officials had recommended approval of the Disneyland offer, made Friday. The old contract expired Thursday. The new pact contains the first raises granted by the Anaheim amusement park since a 22-day strike in 1984, the longest in the “Magic Kingdom’s” history. “We’re very pleased. Both sides worked very hard to come to an agreement,” said Disneyland spokesman Bob Roth. “Yes, it’s a good contract,” said Don Calderwood, a 15-year employee of the costume department. “But the park is not really dealing any justice. None of us can afford homes; we barely keep up our rent.”
