NATION : Koch Blasts Bush Anti-Drug Policy
WASHINGTON — New York lame duck Mayor Edward I. Koch, in a blistering speech to mayors and police chiefs, sharply criticized President Bush’s anti-drug strategy as “morsels from the table,” calling the program more of the same failed policy.
“How long can we allow the federal government to reject its responsibility,” Koch asked. “How long before people rise up in this nation and say government is not protecting us?
“I don’t think we yet have the will to do everything that needs to be done,” he added. “And until we get that will at the federal level, we are lost.”
