Corvettin Wins Feature at Fairplex
Benefiting from a speed duel involving odds-on favorite Sticky Wile, Corvettin won the $53,900 E.B. Johnston Stakes for fillies and mares at Fairplex Park Sunday.
Sticky Wile, the only 3-year-old in the race, was sent off at 4-5. He took the lead from Mirall with five furlongs to run and remained under pressure from her to the final turn.
Jockey Frank Olivares and Corvettin stalked Sticky Wile to midway on the far turn, when she launched her winning bid on the outside. Corvettin slowly pulled off in the closing yards to win by 1 3/4 lengths in 1:43 for the 1 1/16 miles.
Corvettin returned $14.60, $4 and $2.80. Sticky Wile paid $2.40 and $2.20 and Beseya returned $3.
