The Old Globe Theatre dominated the sixth annual San Diego Theater Critics award nominations with 24 nominations for eight plays in the October, 1988, through Sept. 16, 1989, season.

The La Jolla Playhouse, which presented fewer than half the plays the Globe did, picked up 14 nominations for five plays. The San Diego Repertory Theatre gathered 10 nominations for four plays.

The awards ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Abbey Restaurant in Hillcrest.

The show with the most nominations was “Burning Patience,” the first foray by the San Diego Repertory Theatre into bilingual productions. “Burning Patience” picked up six nominations for best production, best director (Doug Jacobs and Jorge Huerta), best actor (Leon Singer), best supporting actress (Yolanda Lloyd-Delgado), best set (Victoria Petrovich) and best lighting (John B. Forbes).

Two directors better known for their work on the national, rather than local scene, also got best-director nominations.

In his first outing as an independent director in 25 years, Adrian Hall, who resigned this year as the longtime artistic director of Trinity Repertory Theatre and then was fired from his new post as artistic director of Dallas Theatre Center, picked up a best director nomination for “Measure for Measure” at the Old Globe Theatre.
