Three-time world speedway motorcycle champion Erik Gundersen of Denmark was critically injured in the first heat race of the World Team Cup in Bradford, England.
Gundersen was placed on a life-support system after a crash with Lance King of Fountain Valley, Jimmy Nilsen of Sweden and Simon Wigg of Britain in the first heat race.
All four riders were hospitalized.
