Community College Roundup : Becker Leads Saddleback in Water Polo
Ten players scored for the Saddleback College water polo in its 14-8 victory over visiting Rancho Santiago in the Orange Empire Conference opener for both teams.
Saddleback, 3-2 overall, was led by Dave Becker, who had three goals.
Saddleback turned a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter into an 8-3 halftime lead.
Omar Ward and Bob Ames each had two goals for Saddleback.
In nonconference water polo:
Cypress 11, Palomar 4--Todd Banhidy had five goals and goalie Pat Ruzgerian had 13 saves to lead Cypress (3-0, 1-0) over visiting Palomar (6-4, 0-1).
In men’s nonconference soccer:
East Los Angeles 2, Fullerton 0--East Los Angeles raised its record to 4-0-1 by beating Fullerton (4-2-1) at East Los Angeles.
Southwestern 7, Golden West 1--Golden West (0-6) had a lead for the first time this season on Eric Figler’s score with 11 minutes left in the first half, but could not hold it. Jim Murphy scored the go-ahead goal for Southwestern.
In women’s nonconference soccer:
Golden West 1, El Camino 1--Rhonda Robinson scored with 23 minutes left to put Golden West (1-2-4) ahead, 1-0, but El Camino’s Jennifer Stone scored one minute later to tie the game.
