A pizza restaurant employee in Placentia was shot in the buttocks but survived an armed robbery of The Pizza Store at 2091 E. Orangethorpe Ave., police said today.

When police arrived shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday night, they chased two suspects on foot, catching one, a 16-year-old boy, whose name was not released, Placentia Police Investigator Roger Gisler said. A handgun was recovered, but the juvenile in custody is not believed to have been the gunman, he said.

The victim, Victor Salinas of Fullerton, was admitted to Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Anaheim.

The restaurant had closed at about 9:30 p.m. but the gunmen entered through an unlocked door, Gisler said. There was no money in the register, but “they might have gotten a couple of bucks” from the three employees still inside, he said.

The shooting appeared to have been unprovoked, according to Gisler. The gunman had started to leave the restaurant but returned and fired a shot, striking Salinas.
